A day without women - film screening on 10.03.2026

10.03.2026 | 6:30 pm admission | 7:00 pm start | Kulturzemtrum Lÿz, St.-Johann-Straße 18, 57074 Siegen | admission 2€

The Referat Chancengerechtigkeit, the Aktionsbündnis Frauenarbeit Siegerland and the Kurbelkiste are showing the documentary Ein Tag ohne Frauen - in the original with subtitles.

One fall morning in 1975, 90% of Icelandic women walked off the job. They refused to work, cook or look after the children, bringing their country to a standstill and catapulting Iceland to the "best place in the world to be a woman". For the first time, the activists themselves have their say. With its message about the collective power of women, A Day Without Women inspires us to change society - and is subversive and unexpectedly funny in the process!

"The film A Day Without Women is an impressive monument to the courageous and humorous women who set this development in motion through their actions. " - NDR Kultur - Das Journal

Women's strike on March 9, 2026

The Equal Opportunities Unit would like to draw attention to the Women's Strike 2026 - and shows solidarity with the organizers. The #töchterkollektiv is organizing a nationwide strike, ENOUGH! a global strike - both will take place on 9 March 2026. This year's women's strike is primarily about visibility, raising awareness and putting aside care tasks and mental load for this day to show what women achieve every day.

The #töchterkollektiv is a nationwide, intersectional feminist movement: "The women's strike makes visible what otherwise remains invisible. It shows what happens when we stop working. We are striking because women and marginalized people have been the pillars of society for decades - in care work, in the social sector, in families, in communities. We are striking because violence, economic dependence and political discrimination are still a reality. Women with a history of migration, Black women, women of color, trans and non-binary people, single parents and people in precarious jobs are particularly affected." (toechterkollektiv.de)

ENOUGH! is a loose group of over 1,000 women* and several dozen men* who believe in the power of the collective: "With the GLOBAL WOMEN*GENERAL STRIKE and its diverse strike actions, we are reclaiming our right to safety, dignity, autonomy and justice - everywhere. [...] For a protest that is as diverse as our experiences, origins and generations." (enoughgenug.org)
