The practical semester is a central component of the Master's degree course for the teaching profession. It is the responsibility of the University of Siegen and is carried out in cooperation with the Hagen - Lüdenscheid - Siegen Centers for Practical Teacher Training and the schools in the training region. In accordance with the framework concept for the structure and content of the practical semester of 14.10.2010, the aim of the practical semester is to combine theory and practice in a profession-oriented manner and to prepare students for the practical requirements of the school and the preparatory service in terms of science and the professional field. To this end, the participating institutions, the university and the centers for practical teacher training, have agreed to cooperate. This cooperation ensures both an intensive and institutionalized collaboration as well as the anchoring of close ties between school practice and academic support.
Three learning locations in the practical semester
During the practical semester, students receive continuous professional and interdisciplinary supervision and support at the three learning locations - university, ZfsL and school.
The practical semester is prepared and accompanied at the university as a place of learning in the form of educational science and subject-specific didactic and scientific courses. The university preparatory and accompanying seminars take place in the school types and subjects studied and are taught by lecturers from the University of Siegen. Among other things, the basics for planning, implementing and reflecting on the study project and teaching plans are developed here. The practical part of the course is carried out in close cooperation with the school and ZfsL. At the end of the practical semester, the examination takes place at the university.
The focus of the practical semester is the school as a place of learning. The practical school part of the practical semester is supervised and accompanied by the training teachers (mentors) at the schools. For example, they offer support in the planning, implementation and reflection of lessons or teaching projects or take part in lesson consultations or the assessment and perspective discussion at the end of the practical semester.
During the practical school part of the internship semester, you will have the opportunity to take part in everyday school life over the course of a school semester and actively help shape it. In addition to observing lessons and teaching under supervision, you will also take part in school conferences, excursions, parents' evenings, parent consultations, all-day activities and break or homework supervision. This gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the many different players, sub-areas and tasks involved in everyday school life.
At the ZfsL learning location, you will be supported at the beginning of the practical school part (more precisely: in the lecture-free period) in interdisciplinary accompanying and introductory events in the preparation, implementation and targeted reflection of the practical semester. During the lecture period, the accompanying seminars are continued in the form of subject-related and educational science accompanying seminars at the university learning location. The seminar leaders of the ZfsL offer several subject-related and interdisciplinary teaching consultations and reflection discussions throughout the practical semester. At the end of the practical semester, there is a so-called assessment and perspective discussion, which is carried out by the ZfsL in cooperation with the mentors from the schools.
Before starting the practical part of the practical semester at school, you will attend
- 3 preparatory seminars (5 preparatory seminars for elementary school teachers starting up to summer semester 17, 4 preparatory seminars for students starting from winter semester 17/18) in each subject or learning area studied at the university learning location
