Time coordination

In order to enable teacher training students to study with as few overlaps as possible, the courses in the subjects with the highest enrolment numbers for all types of school in the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses are coordinated centrally by the Time Coordination Office via a time slot model (ZFM) for the respective semester. By allocating specific time slots to the directly coordinated subjects, the model sets the necessary course for students to complete their studies within the standard period of study. It is therefore a key factor for the studyability of the teacher training sub-courses. As part of the accreditation of teacher training courses, the ZFM is an important instrument for complying with the legal requirements in accordance with Section 58 (3) sentence 3 of the NRW Higher Education Act in conjunction with Section 12 (5) no. 1 and 12 (5) no. 2 of the NRW Higher Education Act. § Section 12 (5) nos. 1 and 2 of the Study Accreditation Ordinance.

The frequently chosen subjects of the various teacher training programs are integrated into the teaching-specific time slot model of the University of Siegen. Teacher training subjects not covered by the ZFM are coordinated within the respective Schools, taking into account the ZFM and avoiding subject and faculty overlaps. This ensures that the majority of the chosen subject combinations can be studied without overlaps.

During the practical part of the internship semester at the university, mandatory accompanying seminars take place in each subject or learning area studied as well as in the educational sciences. In these accompanying seminars, you will be supervised from a didactic/scientific or educational science perspective and, if necessary, supported in dealing with your study project. At the end of the internship semester, the examinations are also carried out as part of the accompanying seminars.

Coordination of the university accompanying seminars

The subject-specific and educational science accompanying seminars, which are held at the university during the practical school part of the practical semester (October to February or April to July), take place as far as possible in blocks on a flexible study day. This means that you generally spend four weekdays at the school and are present at the university on one day. The dates of the accompanying seminars are fixed on certain days of the week. In order to maintain the teacher-student relationship, you will generally attend the university support seminars offered by the teachers of your previous preparatory seminars for the internship semester. However, please follow the instructions given in the accompanying seminars for registration so that you can also carry out your study project in the accompanying seminar provided for this purpose and complete your internship semester without any overlaps.

In a few cases, it may be necessary to attend two accompanying seminars within one week. In these cases, the accompanying course of another week will be omitted, so that the total number of courses to be attended can remain the same for all students.

Important note:

When booking, please note that some lecturers may have two date options available. In this case, please take the accompanying seminar that does not result in any overlaps or double study days within one week.

In order to make it easier for the schools to plan the teaching support at an early stage, we recommend that you send the dates of your university support seminars to the supervising schools or training teachers before the start of the practical part of the practical semester.

As part of the time slot model, each directly coordinated subject is allocated fixed times in blocks of 2 SWS each within a time frame of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for each semester. In these blocks, all courses in the subject are planned that are scheduled for the semester in question according to the standard curriculum. For course planning, the model distinguishes between core periods and elective periods. In particular, courses that are only offered once per academic year and/or without an alternative in the semester should take place in the core periods. Elective periods are intended for courses that are offered more than once or for which participation can be arranged flexibly in accordance with the subject-specific provisions or the subject examination regulations of the respective subject.

illustrated. The overall matrices by study cycle and semester provide a general overview of all coordinated subjects. For subject-specific planning, sub-matrices have been created in which the core and elective periods relevant to the respective subject are shown separately. In addition, further information on course planning within the framework of the ZFM can be found in the sub-matrices.

In order to keep overlaps to a minimum even in the case of a subject combination with subjects not directly coordinated via the ZFM, these subjects are provided with planning information
for course planning are available to these subjects. These aim in particular to avoid internal faculty overlaps and overlaps with courses in educational sciences.

In cases where there are nevertheless overlaps between two courses in the teaching degree program, students are first required to check whether they can switch to an alternative course.

If no alternatives are available, students are advised to complete the overlap form for the LA degree program (ÜFo)
to fill in. Once the completed online form has been received, the Time Coordination Office will immediately contact all parties involved and support students and lecturers in finding a solution.

The coordination of accompanying seminars during the practical semester includes all subjects involved in teacher training. Interdisciplinary coordination takes place at the ZLB and ensures that there is no overlap of accompanying courses (three to four university accompanying seminars per student, depending on the type of school) with regard to the numerous subject combinations.

The subject-specific and educational science accompanying seminars, which are held at the university during the lecture period, take place in blocks on a flexible study day each week.

In addition to the above-mentioned quality assurance measures, Temporal Coordination uses the experience gained from the respective reporting cycles as an impetus for quality development.

All overlap reports received are evaluated each semester and compared with the statistics from previous semesters. Recurring problems are dealt with in cooperation with Quality Management in Teaching and the Schools. If the processing of overlap reports results in individual requirements, these are dealt with in cooperation with the subjects concerned and the relevant quality management department. Overlaps are regularly discussed in the subjects' annual meetings and students are informed about the overlap form. Experiences from the respective reporting cycles are also incorporated into the revision of teacher training courses as part of the accreditation process.

and directly via the overlap form.

After submitting the overlap form, they will be contacted by the Time Coordination Office and advised about their options. Overlaps cannot be resolved in all cases, as the time slot model can only be applied if students are studying according to the standard curricula. In cases where students (e.g. due to a change of university, subject, type of school or other factors) study in a way that deviates from the standard study plan, individual solutions are sought in cooperation with the subjects. In addition to cases of overlap, the Temporal Coordination Office is available to support and advise students in all matters relating to the organization of their studies.
