The following course provides more information about interlibrary loans:
Ordering books or other media
Interlibrary loan requests for books are made online. To do this, you need to log in with your ZIMT ID and password.
First, use the search mask to find the desired title. Then select whether you need the complete book or only a chapter / article.
In the section "Terms of delivery", you can specify whether another edition is accepted as an alternative and whether the title should be reserved if it is currently on loan from all libraries participating in the interlibrary loan system. If the book is only available by placing a reservation, it is necessary to wait for the book being returned. The delivering time will be longer then.
A summary of the order data is displayed at the end of the order. This also contains an order number that you will need for any queries.
Please note that only 10% of a publication are allowed for copy via interlibrary loan (§ 60e, 5 UrhG).
In the case of multi-volume works, it's necessary to place a separate order for each volume.
If you cannot find the title you are looking for, you can the order via a blank ordering form. The link to this order form can be found at the end of the results list.

Only one article per order is possible.
There may be higher charges for articles with more than 20; in this case, please fill out the box “Kostenübernahme bis” (meeting the costs up to).
A summary of the order data is displayed at the end of the order. This also contains a transaction number (TAN) that you will need if you have any questions regarding your order

Ordering after a search via the Katalog plus
You can also place an interlibrary loan request directly after a search via the Katalog plus catalog. To do this, search for the required literature using the search mask. You can then order the title via interlibrary loan using the link "How do I get it?".
Costs
An interlibrary loan order costs €1.50. This amount is displayed in the library account. The fee is also charged if the order cannot be delivered. Interlibrary loan is currently free of charge for university staff with a library card.
In the delivery conditions, you can specify the amount up to which additional costs are covered (recommended: at least €8). Additional costs may be incurred, for example, for articles over 20 pages or for orders via international interlibrary loan.
Postage costs will also be charged for notification by post if no e-mail address has been provided.
Restrictions
Not all titles can be delivered via interlibrary loan. As a rule, the following are excluded
- Titles that are available in the library
- New acquisitions and media for which no proof of ownership in a library can yet be determined
- Titles that are available in bookshops for less than 15 euros
- Loose-leaf editions and complete journal issues/volumes
- Media that are generally not publicly accessible, such as term papers, final exam papers, teachers' editions of workbooks, tests or recordings of TV programs
- Works that impart elementary or purely practical knowledge, e.g. cookbooks or travel guides
- Works of particular value, especially works published before 1800
- Works of unusual format
- Works subject to special copyright provisions, e.g. ebooks, standards and patents
Notification and borrowing media
As soon as the delivery has arrived at the library, you will be notified by e-mail or post (the postage costs will be charged in this case).
The media will be available for collection for 14 calendar days. The order can be collected within this period with your library card at the circulation desk of the selected pick-up location.
The loan period for books and media that have to be returned is set by the lending library and can be found on your pink interlibrary loan form and in your library account. It begins when the item is made available for you, not when you collect the book.
Extending loan periods and returning media
Interlibrary loans can be returned at all Siegen University Library locations.
If the interlibrary loan is needed beyond the scheduled loan period, you can visit the circulation desk at the pick-up location during service hours - with the item, the booking receipt and the library card/USiCard. An extension can also be requested by e-mail (fernleihe@ub.uni-siegen.de) to the interlibrary loan department. In this case, it is important to state the library card number and order number. If the pink slip states "KEINE Fristverlängerung", an extension is not possible.
Terms of use (reading room)
The University library has to adhere to any and all terms of uses set by the lending libraries. This includes restrictions such as “Nur Lesesaalbenutzung” (reading room use only) or “Kopierverbot” (copying prohibited).
Further information will be provided by e-mail in such cases. You can view these items during service hours at the Central Information of the main library.
For microforms, a reading device (reader-printer / film scanner) is available for use by appointment.
