Library card, Uni Siegen app or USiCard

As a student at the University of Siegen, you can use the digital library card in the University of Siegen app. The app is available free of charge for Android and iOS via the respective app store. In order for the library card to work in the app, you must have it activated once at the University Library.

Alternatively, you can also apply for a classic library card or have your "old" USiCard activated for library use.

As a professor, research assistant or member of technical and administrative staff at the University of Siegen, you can apply for a library card at any time.

Non-university users

You can also apply for a library card if you are a citizen of the city of Siegen or the Federal Republic of Germany.

Young people who are at least 16 but not yet 18 years old also require a declaration of consent from their parents or legal guardians.

Important:

In addition to the application, please present a valid ID card or passport and a registration certificate at one of our circulation desks.

Students of the University of Siegen also need to show their electronic student ID in the University of Siegen app or a current certificate of enrollment.

Please fill in the application form for the library card / activation of the Uni Siegen App or USiCard for library use on the screen, print it out, sign it and scan it together with:
- a copy of your valid identity card (front and back),
- a copy of your certificate of enrolment for the current semester and
- maybe your USiCard (front and back).

As soon as your library card has been finished or the Siegen University app/USiCard has been activated, we will send you “First Information on Borrowing” by email.

The physical library card needs to be picked up in person, with valid photo ID.


 

Change of the address or e-mail address

In your own interest, you should inform the University Library immediately of any change of address, including your e-mail address.
Any costs and disadvantages incurred as a result of non-compliance are borne by the user.

Students of the University of Siegen should also inform the Student Secretariat of the change of address.

Period of validity of the library card

For students of the University of Siegen the validity ends with the de-registration.

For staff of the University of Siegen, the validity ends with the expiry of the employment contract. Please let us know if you wish to extend your contract when you apply for an extension of your library card. Extension of validity

For Non-University users, the validity ends if no services relevant to borrowing from the University Library have been used in two consecutive calendar years.

Loss of the library card

To protect against misuse, the University Library should be informed immediately if you lose your library card/USiCard. The card will then be blocked for library use. Until the loss is reported, the user is liable for any misuse. A replacement card will be issued on request against payment of a fee of €10.

If the smartphone is lost, the password for the ZIMT ID should be changed immediately in order to prevent any misuse of the University of Siegen app with the digital library card.

If the library card is blocked, library staff can be contacted to unblock it. The library card / library function in the University of Siegen app or on the USiCard may be blocked for the following reasons:

  • The library card / USiCard has been reported as lost / stolen:
    The block can be lifted by presenting the card at one of the circulation desks.
  • Notifications / e-mails from the library could not be delivered: 
    Please provide your current address via the library account via the library account.
  • The loan period of a borrowed item has been exceeded by more than 30 days:
    Please return the item immediately and pay the fee. If the item is lost, a declaration of loss will be issued.
  • Fees due have not been paid:
    Once the fees have been paid, the loan account will be unblocked.
  • The validity of the library card has expired (members of the University of Siegen):
    Application for renewal of the library card OR library card for non-university members.
  • Not reported back to the Registrar's Office in due time:
    The current certificate of enrollment is now required for the suspension to be lifted.
