Activating your ZIMT account
How to activate your ZIMT account or change your ZIMT password via unisono.
What is a ZIMT account?
When you enrol at the University of Siegen, you will be given access to unisono as well as to the so-called ZIMT account. It consists of a user ID (a so-called g-number) and a password that you assign yourself.
Your ZIMT account is your access to several IT-services by ZIMT, such as:
- university e-mail adress
- WiFi (via eduroam)
- VPN (via eduVPN)
- Learning management system Moodle

Note: The ZIMT account is not to be confused with the unisono account! You can use unisono to register for events and examinations, for example.
The activation of the ZIMT account and the university e-mail account is absolutely necessary, as official e-mails from the university (e.g. from the student offices, your lecturers, examination offices etc.) are sent to this official student e-mail address only.
Activate ZIMT account and change password
Even though both systems are independent of each other, the ZIMT account is initially activated via unisono:
- To activate your ZIMT account, log in to unisono (link below).
(You can access your unisono account via your matriculation number and a password you have assigned). - Then select "Personal settings" in the "Service" menu, then „Registration and security,” and finally "ZIMT-Account".
- Click on the link to be redirected to activate your account.
You can also change your password in this way if you have forgotten it. - Once you have successfully registered, you will be redirected to a page where your user ID and e-mail address will be displayed. Memorize them well or write them down, as the user ID is required to log in for all ZIMT services.

With your ZIMT account, you now have access to ZIMT services. These include e.g.:

As student you have also the option of using software licenses such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Express or Webex via the UniSIM user account management system:
Further services - University library and cloud system
The access data for the ZIMT account is also required to use the University Library's catalogs.
Important: Although the login is done with the user data of the ZIMT account, the library account is managed by the University Library and is not the same as the ZIMT account. The ZIMT account is only used here for authentication purposes.
Furthermore, you can apply for access to the university cloud sciebo using your ZIMT account and receive 30 GB of free storage space.
