The department introduces itself

We combine traditional and innovative expertise - in structural engineering, geotechnics, transportation and water engineering as well as environmental and infrastructure planning. We research solutions for the future: climate-resilient infrastructure, resource-efficient construction and digital planning methods. These topics also shape our teaching, which combines traditional principles with expertise in the sustainable use of resources, climate adaptation, mobility change, ecological construction practice and the digital transformation of construction.

The South Westphalia region offers a vibrant environment with tradition, innovation and strong partnerships. Students benefit from personal support and international contacts in research and practice. We invite you to join us in actively shaping the built environment - as students, doctoral candidates, project partners or practitioners.

Faculty IV's 2026 Annual Celebration

Natural Sciences and Technology School Annual Celebration: Sunshine, a Red Carpet, and Lots of Applause for Up-and-Coming Scholars

The School of Science and Technology at the University of Siegen celebrated its graduates and newly minted Ph.D. recipients in a festive setting. At the annual celebration in the Apollo Theater, the focus was on the achievements of the next generation of scientists—as well as awards for outstanding research and dedicated teaching.

The conditions could hardly have been better: Under bright sunshine and walking across a red carpet, guests streamed into the Apollo Theater. The anticipation for the highlight of the day—the ceremonial presentation of diplomas—was palpable. Even before the event began, many graduates took advantage of the photo backdrop featuring the sculpture of the faculty logo to take commemorative photos in their academic gowns and doctoral caps.

Obituary for Prof. Heinz Günter Ließke, Dipl.-Ing.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to

Prof. Heinz Günter Ließke, Dipl.-Ing.

July 10, 1929 – June 19, 2026

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Siegen mourns the loss of Prof. Heinz Günter Ließke, who served as a professor of structural analysis and heavy-frame construction—with a special focus on bridge and scaffolding construction—at our university until his retirement in 1994.

With his extensive technical knowledge, his dedication to research and teaching, and his deep commitment to engineering, he had a lasting impact on the development of structural engineering at the University of Siegen. His scholarly work and his contributions as a university professor influenced many generations of students and colleagues.

Even after his active tenure at the university, Prof. Ließke remained closely connected to our institution. Until the very end, he was an engaged and warm-hearted person who closely followed events at the university and developments in civil engineering. With his openness, friendliness, and alert mind, he enriched every encounter.

With the passing of Prof. Heinz Günter Ließke, we have lost a highly esteemed scholar, a dedicated university professor, and a beloved person. We will honor his memory.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and all those who were close to him.
