Welcome to the Department of Physics

The focus of our research is on current topics in the fields of solid state physics, quantum optics and particle physics. In our working groups, 22 professors work together with students and scientists to research current issues from experiment and theory. Numerous international collaborations underline the high visibility of our research.

The close cooperation between the student council and the university guarantees excellent support for our students and a high quality of teaching. The excellent relationship between lecturers and students enables us to provide individual support. Thanks to the close integration of teaching and research, our students can gain an early insight into current research projects in the various working groups. We offer special lecture series for interested pupils.

More Than Just Viscous: Researchers Study the Movement of Proteins

A study conducted at the European XFEL international research facility has yielded new insights into the movement of proteins in cell-like environments. The findings have now been published in the journal *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences*. The first author is Michelle Dargasz, a doctoral student at the University of Siegen.
