Simon Giersbach was awarded the sponsorship prize of the Architecture and Civil Engineering Sponsorship Association at the Siegen Construction Day 2025 for his bachelor's thesis on the creation of a numerical model to simulate the distortion of metallic structures during hot-dip galvanizing, which he wrote at the Chair of Steel Construction and Steel Composite Construction.

The thesis addresses a practically relevant issue in structural steel construction and combines this with numerical methods. It thus makes an important contribution to the process-related evaluation of component deformations during hot-dip galvanizing and underlines the close integration of science and practical engineering application at the Chair of Steel Construction.
