In principle, participation in sports activities is at your own risk and personal responsibility, i.e. in the event of damage, participants must ensure that they have sufficient private accident and liability insurance cover and are liable themselves.
Under certain conditions, students enrolled at the University of Siegen are covered by statutory accident insurance. In particular, it must be checked on a case-by-case basis whether the sporting activity in question has a compensatory health function or serves the social integration of students. Binding information on the scope and extent of the accident insurance can be obtained directly from the Unfallkasse NRW: https://www.unfallkasse-nrw.de/service/haeufige-fragen/studierende.html
The University of Siegen is only liable for damages resulting from injury to life, body or health that are based on an intentional or negligent breach of duty as well as in the event of a breach of essential contractual obligations ("cardinal obligations") and the amount is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract.
In the case of cooperation courses, the cooperating sports organization joins the University of Siegen and is liable in the same way for damages arising in its sphere.
The University of Siegen does not explicitly promote competitive or elite sport. There is no screening or promotion of talented athletes.
Nevertheless, there may be university sports courses that are considered competitive courses and include a corresponding training program. These sports courses sometimes also take part in regional tournaments.
If you are interested, we will of course be happy to register you for the university championships. You can find the current conditions of participation and dates here on the adh website.
Please note that registration requires a lead time and you must therefore contact us in good time via info@sport.uni-siegen.de

Yes, there is a gym in building AR-S. If you would like to train there, then book a sports card and a corresponding course in university sports. For free training, talk to your exercise instructor in University Sports and make an appointment with her at the gym. It is not possible to train at the gym without an instructor. The gym also does not have regular opening hours for free training. Employees of the University of Siegen may have the opportunity to train in the gym as part of the company sports program (see company sports courses offered).
No, this is not possible. The use of the sports facilities by third parties is associated with considerable bureaucratic effort due to various safety regulations. We regret and ask for your understanding that the ZB-SB does not have the resources to deal with such requests.
No, free hall times are not available for individual use. If you would like to do more sport and make use of free hall times, then you are welcome to apply to be an exercise leader in university sports. How does that work? See here: How can I offer a course in university sports?

The University of Siegen's teaching pool on the Adolf-Reichwein-Straße campus was taken out of service in spring 2022. Considerable investment would be required to renovate and continue operating it. In view of the necessary energy cost savings, the university management has decided to discontinue the continued operation of the teaching pool. For this reason, there will be no more university sports courses in the water exercise area for the time being.
If you would like to offer a university sports course, please contact the ZB-SB at info@sport.uni-siegen.de
Please note that you need a first aid certificate that is no more than two years old in order to lead a sports course. The criterion of motor skills (advanced courses) is only taken into consideration if there is a course of the same sport open to all levels. All university sports texts are formulated in a gender-appropriate manner.
The ZB-SB advocates the installation of unisex changing rooms and unisex toilets. However, the Workplace Ordinance ASR A4.1 stipulates: "Separate sanitary facilities must be provided for female and male employees." Unfortunately, it is therefore not possible to set up unisex changing rooms to meet the requirements of the General Equal Treatment Act without further ado.

In accordance with § 2 (1) DGUV, the exercise leader must take the necessary measures to prevent accidents and health hazards and to provide effective first aid. In accordance with § 2 (2) DGUV, the exercise leader must be guided by the general principles set out in § 4 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Specifically, this means avoiding hazards of any kind as far as possible, shielding sources of danger as far as possible and giving participants suitable instructions.

Access
Orientation in the building
The rear entrance to the hall is located directly at the top of the concrete staircase that leads up next to the bus stop. Only the training management should enter the building through this rear entrance.
The rear entrance leads into a long corridor where the changing rooms (w/m) and a passageway to the sports hall are located. The training supervisor can decide whether a changing room is open for f or m depending on the situation. At the end of the long corridor, a staircase leads up to the main entrance of the sports facility.
The main entrance door can be operated with a switch. If the green lamp at the top of the concrete post is lit, the door can be opened from the outside so that participants can enter the building. If the light is off, the door is locked again.
Behind the main entrance, a staircase leads up to the studio and the grandstand. Only the training management is allowed to enter the grandstand to retrieve sports equipment. Due to infrequent cleaning, the grandstand area is very slippery.
The ZB-SB storage room is located at the very back of the passageway to the sports hall and may only be entered by the training management. There are also toilets in this corridor, a first aid room, an (unused) storage room and two entrances to the sports hall, each with double doors.
The light switches for the sports hall are located next to these double doors. The sports hall has no windows; ventilation is automated using a ventilation system.
Allowing participants into the sports hall
Only the training supervisor grants access to the sports facility. The chip key is never passed on to third parties.
It may happen that the chip does not open the door to the sports hall. In this case, the chip must be activated. To do this, simply hold it on the contact point at the rear entrance.
Only persons authorized to participate in the relevant sports activity are permitted in the sports hall. Participants may only enter the sports hall if their instructor is in the sports hall.
Participants from other sports courses should not be allowed into the sports hall. These people can wait in the intermediate corridor, for example.
Use of permanently installed equipment
Principle
All permanently installed sports facilities may only be operated/converted by the exercise leader or in consultation with the exercise leader. Sports operations must be stopped during operation/conversion. Anyone operating an electronic device must keep an eye on the effects at all times.
Switch off electrical devices after use and disconnect them from the power supply if possible. Never pull connecting cables out of the socket by the cable; always touch the plug directly. Defective electrical appliances must not be repaired or operated. Defective appliances must be clearly marked "Defective" by the training supervisor.
Music system
The music system is located in Gate 4 and is connected via a BT adapter. Operating instructions are displayed. The system must be switched off again after use.
Basketball hoops
The basketball hoops can be operated in gates 1 and 8. There are buttons for lowering and raising the basket.
The emergency button should only be operated in an emergency. A key is attached to a chain to unlock the emergency button.
Gates
Gates may only be used when they are screwed tight. Unscrewed doors must be placed with the open side against the wall to prevent them from tipping over.
Partition curtain
The partition curtains are operated in the first aid room and storage room. There is a key on a chain next to the window that can be used to raise and lower them.
Electric ball pump
The electric ball pump is located in the first aid room.
Prohibited equipment
There is technical equipment in the first aid room (including the ventilation system) that must not be operated under any circumstances.
There is a projector including a projection screen and a lifting platform in gate 1. None of this may be used.
Material management

Misuse of equipment
Safety must be ensured if equipment is misused. In general, the exercise leader may not exceed the contractually agreed competence in their sports offer.
It is prohibited to use mat and ball trolleys or boards as obstacles, play equipment or field boundaries in sports activities.
Safety

The training supervisor may supervise up to 19 persons. If they allow more people into the sports hall, a total of 10% of those present must have a current first aid certificate.
Escape routes and assembly point
If the sports hall has to be evacuated, this is done via the escape door next to gate 8.
After leaving the building, the sports group gathers at the assembly point next to the parking garage. The exercise leader checks that the group is complete. Missing persons must be reported to the evacuation assistants or the fire brigade.
The plans with the escape routes and the assembly point are posted at the entrances to the building.
Fire protection
The self-closing hall entrance doors are fire doors and must therefore never be wedged open.
The escape routes and emergency doors must remain clear at all times. It is not permitted to place sports bags, boxes or benches in the passage area of the doors.
Emergency call and emergency board
The emergency number at the university is: 0271 / 740 - 2111. It is recommended to save this number in your smartphone.
This number is used to contact the central control system (ZLT), which then informs the emergency services on site and opens all barriers on the access routes.
The emergency board with this and other information is displayed in the first aid room. There is also a telephone there.
First aid
In addition to the emergency telephone, the first aid room contains bandages and a refrigerator with cool packs.
There is also a stretcher, walking aids and marking vests for people who instruct the ambulance.
The first aid room must always be open so that participants also have access to the first aid materials and the emergency telephone.
Every use must be made known to the exercise leader and reported digitally to the ZB-SB using the form on the refrigerator.
Defibrillators
The nearest defibrillators are located in the AR-NA and AR-HB buildings. In building AR-NA, the defibrillator is located opposite the main entrance; in building AR-HB, it is on the left-hand side of the wall next to the main entrance.
Medical treatment
Medical treatment following accidents at work may only be carried out by hospitals or so-called "Durchgangsärzte" (D-Arzt). A current list of D-doctors is available from the University of Siegen's occupational health and safety department. The nearest hospital: Klinikum Siegen, Weidenauer Straße 76, 57076 Siegen (approx. 10 minutes' drive).
Lost property
Lost property should be placed in the box in the ZB-SB storage room. The find must be noted on the list that is available there.
Lost property may be handed over if the ownership is plausible and undisputed. The return must also be noted on the list.
Lost property that is not collected is regularly handed over by the ZB-SB to the university's lost and found office.

All stored food must be labeled with name and date. The permanent storage of private supplies is prohibited.
Hygiene must be maintained. Food should be well packaged. Expired, improperly or disproportionately long stored products will be disposed of by the ZB-SB without consultation with the owner.
Smartboard
The Smartboard must not leave the front area of the studio. The cables must not become a tripping hazard. Operating instructions can be found on the back of the device.
Material management
Principle
Participants may only take materials in consultation with the instructor.
Damaged materials may no longer be used. Such material must be marked "defective" by the exercise leader and - if possible - placed in the ZB-SB storage room.
It is not permitted to bring material from the sports hall into the studio or to use material from the studio in the sports hall.
Furniture
The furniture may be moved in the front area under the supervision of the exercise leader. However, the escape routes must be observed. Corresponding plans are displayed. The furniture must then be returned to its original position.
Overview of equipment
The kitchen is equipped with crockery. The gym has barbells and dumbbells, exercise mats and exercise balls.
Safety
Persons with a first aid certificate
The exercise instructor may supervise up to 19 people. If they allow more people into the studio, a total of 10% of those present must have a current first aid certificate.
Exercise leaders must continuously supervise their group. It is not permitted to leave the active sports group unattended.
Escape routes and assembly point
If the sports hall has to be evacuated, this is done via the main entrance to the building.
After leaving the building, the sports group gathers at the assembly point next to the parking garage. The exercise leader will check that the group is complete. Missing persons must be reported to the evacuation assistants or the fire brigade.
The plans with the escape routes and the assembly point are posted at the entrances to the building.
Fire protection
The self-closing doors are fire doors and must therefore never be wedged open.
The escape routes and emergency doors must remain clear at all times. It is not permitted to place sports bags or furniture in the passage area of the doors.
Emergency call and emergency board
The emergency number at the university is: 0271 / 740 - 2111. It is recommended to save this number in your smartphone.
This number is used to contact the central control system (ZLT), which then informs the emergency services on site and opens all barriers on the access routes.
The emergency board with this and other information is displayed in the first aid area. There is also a telephone there.
First aid
In the first aid area, there is an emergency telephone, bandaging material and a fridge with cool packs.
In the first aid room next to the sports hall, there is also a stretcher, walking aids and marking vests for people who instruct the ambulance.
Every use must be made known to the training supervisor and reported digitally to the ZB-SB using the form on the fridge.
The surrender must also be noted on the list.
Lost property that is not collected is regularly handed over by the ZB-SB to the university's lost and found office.
Sports hall
This instruction does not entitle you to instruct sports groups in the large sports hall. Additional instruction must be completed for this.

Scope of application: University sports courses and cooperation courses
The statutory task of the Central Operating Unit for Sport and Exercise (ZB-SB) is to promote sport at the university. To this end, university sports courses are held on campus and with ZB-SB trainers.
The ZB-SB also offers cooperation courses. These are courses that are provided jointly with regional sports clubs and commercial sports companies on their sports facilities and with their trainers. These can be courses that are open exclusively to members of the university or courses in which members of the sports organization can also participate (e.g. club members or customers).
The conditions of participation apply to university sports events at the University of Siegen and to cooperation courses. By booking a participation place, the conditions of participation are accepted.
Exclusion of liability/insurance cover
Participation in the sports offers is always at your own risk and personal responsibility, i.e. in the event of damage, participants must ensure that they have sufficient private accident and liability insurance cover or are liable themselves.
Students of the University of Siegen in particular are covered by statutory accident insurance under certain conditions, which must be checked in each individual case. The ZB-SB provides information on its scope and extent on its website.
The University of Siegen is only liable for damages resulting from injury to life, body or health that are based on an intentional or negligent breach of duty and in the event of a breach of essential contractual obligations ("cardinal obligations") and the amount is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract.
In the case of cooperative courses, the cooperating sports organization shall act in addition to the University of Siegen and shall be liable in the same way for damages arising in its sphere.
Fitness for sport
Participation in a sports course confirms your own fitness for sport. If you have any doubts about your fitness for sport, you may only take part in sport once you have a medical certificate of fitness for sport. The exercise leader should be informed of any sports-related illnesses and restrictions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, heart problems) before participation in the sport, if necessary, in order to avoid acute risks during the event. Data will only be stored by the ZB-SB if required by law (e.g. accident documentation).
Participation groups and participation fees
Group 1: Students of the University of Siegen, trainees of the University of Siegen
Group 2: Employees of the University of Siegen, alumni of the University of Siegen
Group 3: Guests, guest students, students of other universities
The respective fees are visible to participants in the booking process. The sliding scale takes into account, among other things, the different possibilities of using public funds. The participation fees serve to proportionally finance university sports.
Booking sports tickets and participation places
A participation place must be booked in order to participate in events. This may be subject to a fee, which is determined by the ZB-SB and can be seen in the booking system before the fee-based booking is made.
The number of participation places in an event is limited. The procedure for allocating places at an event is determined by the ZB-SB. Authorization to participate may be limited to certain participation groups. The number of participation places, the allocation procedure and the permitted participation groups can be seen in the booking system.
For certain events, the booking of a participation place may require the purchase of a sports card before or with the booking. The sports card remains valid for the entire semester. The fee to be paid for the sports card can be seen in the booking system before the fee-based booking is made. The sports card does not entitle the holder to a participation place in a specific event.
participation places may not be blocked (non-participation despite registration): If participation in an event for which no additional costs are incurred is not possible, the booking must be canceled independently via the booking system and the place released again.
Payment of fees
Payment of fees can only be made after registration via the booking system and by direct debit. A direct debit mandate must be issued for this purpose. If costs are incurred for returned direct debits, these must be paid in addition to the fees.
Confirmation and checking of the booking
A digital confirmation of the booking is issued after the booking has been made. Confirmations are only valid for the person named in the confirmation and are not transferable.
The confirmation for the relevant sports offer must be able to be shown to the exercise leader or a person authorized by the ZB-SB at the event, e.g. on a smartphone with which a digital check-in is carried out.
Exclusion from participation
Participants who acutely disrupt an event can be immediately excluded from the event by the training management and must leave the sports facility immediately.
Furthermore, the ZB-SB can exclude persons from participation temporarily or permanently after prior consultation if an important reason is established. Important reasons can be in particular:
- Non-payment of fees (e.g. causing return debit notes)
- Lack of fitness for sport
- Repeated blocking of participation places (non-participation despite registration)
- Fraud or attempted fraud when booking (e.g. providing false data or using participation places). Fraud or attempted fraud when booking (e.g. providing false data or using other people's participation confirmations)
- Disruption of the event, for example by disregarding the instructions of the training supervisor
- Theft
- Complaints from the cooperation partner to the ZB-SB about the behavior of the person concerned
- Violation of the ZB-SB terms of use, for example unauthorized use of sports materials or facilities
- Violation of the University of Siegen's house rules, for example damage to property, vandalism, littering or carrying out unauthorized advertising
- Violation of the guidelines for respectful conduct at the University of Siegen, e.g. discrimination, bullying, stalking, sexual harassment
- Violations of regulations according to § 51a paragraph 1 HG, e.g. use of violence or violation of the dignity of other university members through intimidation, hostility, insults
- Social behavior that is contrary to the values of the University of Siegen, e.g. support of anti-democratic or racist initiatives
Participants who feel unfairly treated by the exclusion can contact the head of the ZB-SB. If the matter cannot be resolved in this way, the university's central complaints office is also available.
Information on data protection
1. Collection of personal data In the following, we inform you about the collection of personal data when using our website. Personal data is all data that can be directly or indirectly related to you personally, e.g. name, address, email addresses, user behavior. We process your data in accordance with GDPR Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b). This means that we only collect, store and process the personal data entered by you in the contact form and determined for course documentation insofar as this is necessary to fulfill the order. We store your data to process future bookings. You agree that in the event of an accident, your health-related data may also be documented by other persons and archived by the ZB-SB in accordance with § 24 (6) DGUV and Art. 9 (2) a) GDPR. Any further processing of your personal data beyond the stated purposes is not permitted and requires a separate declaration of consent from you. Further information on data protection can be found on the University of Siegen website. 2. Use of images In accordance with § 22 sentence 1 KunstUrhG and Art. 6 para. 1 lit a), you agree that images and video recordings of you made in connection with the events, which are arranged by the ZB-SB, may be used by the University of Siegen together with your name as part of a worldwide cross-media advertising campaign. You agree that your above-mentioned recordings may be published by the University of Siegen in the following manner: on the public websites, in social networks (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube), on printed materials created for advertising purposes. You are aware that if the above-mentioned data is published on the Internet, it can be accessed worldwide. You consent to any associated transfer to third countries in accordance with Art. 49 para. 1 lit a. GDPR.
Refund and waiver of fees
1. Withdrawal of a booking You can withdraw from a fee-based booking without giving reasons within 14 days of receiving the booking confirmation by email. In the event of withdrawal, both parties are obliged to reimburse any services already received. If the services cannot be refunded or can only be refunded in part, compensation must be paid. For the sports card, this means that a refund or waiver of the fee is excluded if at least one event took place in university sports after the sports card was booked and the sports card in question was used to book a participation place. It is irrelevant whether a participation place was actually booked or an event was attended. For cooperation courses, this means that the ZB-SB has already provided the service of mediation with the booking. The placement fee agreed with the cooperation partner can therefore no longer be refunded or waived (status WiSe 2025/26: 20 euros). The extent to which the fee can be refunded or waived beyond this will be clarified by the ZB-SB with the relevant cooperation partner on the basis of the statutory provisions. 2. Changes to the offer The ZB-SB may change the event offer at any time without giving reasons. As long as the type and scope of the original offer remains unchanged, there is no entitlement to reimbursement or waiver of fees. Fees for the sports card are excluded from reimbursement or waiver due to a change in the range of events. 3. Cancellation of an event If an event is firstly canceled in whole or in part and secondly an event-related fee has been paid for this event, a refund or waiver of fees can be applied for informally at the ZB-SB up to four weeks after the last date of the event or after the cancellation of the entire event has become known. The extent of the refund is determined by the proportion of the original overall offer that was not provided. Fees for the sports card will only be refunded or waived if the sports card was a prerequisite for participation in the event in question and there was no sports offer at all after booking the sports card due to the cancellation. 4. Personal reasons A refund or waiver of fees due to personal reasons is not possible (e.g. illness, injury, relocation, lack of time). Exclusion from participation also does not lead to a claim for reimbursement or waiver of fees. The revocation or application for reimbursement or waiver should be sent to: info@sport.uni-siegen.de
