The Studio for New Music

• regularly offers concerts, performances, lectures, interdisciplinary events and cross-border art events,
• develops works of contemporary music with students and pupils and guides them in their own compositional work,
• invites internationally renowned performers and ensembles to give concerts in Siegen (e.g. the Arditti Quartet, the Ensemble Modern, Markus Stockhausen, Tabea Zimmermann),
• presents 'classics' of contemporary music as well as premieres and first performances of newly composed works (e.g. by Samuel Adler, Moritz Eggert, Barabara Heller, Anestis Logothetis, Kaija Saariaho, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Augusta Read Thomas),
• works closely with local and regional musicians and cultural organizations,
• includes various performance venues in the city of Siegen in its projects (e.g. the University, the Apollo Theater, churches, schools, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Lÿz, factory halls, etc.),
• cooperates with national and international institutions (DLF, WDR, Musikhochschule Köln, Walcker-Stiftung etc.).

In this way, it complements the range of courses offered at the university (in the subject of music, but also interdisciplinary) on the one hand and has an impact on the local and regional cultural spectrum from within the university on the other.

An impressive chronicle of the "Studio for New Music", more than 100 posters from 18 years, designed by Cologne artist Daniel Hees, was published as an artist's book in 2013. Further information can be found on the homepage of universi-Verlag.
