Student research projects and theses
We supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as student research projects in the Master's program
We are happy to supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as dissertations for students specializing in traffic and road engineering in the field of traffic planning. Topics are chosen individually by the head of the department, taking into account your interests and career aspirations. We practically always work together with a responsible administration and, if necessary, an engineering office. Therefore, you should first consider which area you are interested in or in which area you are already working or would like to work:
- Highways (Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes)
- Rural roads (Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW, Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland-Pfalz, Hessen Mobil)
- Urban roads (Siegen, Netphen, Kreuztal, ...)
- Public transportation (Zweckverband Personennahverkehr Westfalen-Süd, ...)
Bachelor's theses require the completion of at least one module from the specialization offered by the chair in the 3rd stage of studies. These are mainly smaller planning projects comparable to the tasks of a traffic engineer in a road construction administration or in an engineering office (e.g. redesign of junctions, road sections, bus stops, etc.). Once we have narrowed down the topic together, the second step is to select a specific object for investigation. We are happy to accept suggestions from your employer. However, you can also suggest objects yourself that you know from your own environment and where you see a need for redesign. These do not necessarily have to be in the immediate vicinity of Siegen, for example, if you come from a more distant area. If you wish, I can also contact a property management company myself for the purpose of selecting a property.
For student research projects and master's theses in the master's program, the main aim is to independently and critically examine research questions using scientific methods. A wide range of topics is possible here, which again differ in their focus according to the areas mentioned above and build on the content of the corresponding Master's modules.
