In addition to the "Color meets Flavor" Cluster of Excellence, physicists from the University of Siegen will be involved in another Cluster of Excellence from 2026. The "Experimental Quantum Optics" working group led by Prof. Dr. Christof Wunderlich is a cooperation partner in the "ML4Q" cluster for quantum research.

The University of Siegen has been awarded the contract for a Cluster of Excellence in the field of elementary particle physics. The project with partners Bonn, Dortmund and Jülich was successful in the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments - it will receive a total of around 60 million euros in funding over the next seven years.

The “Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics” has been awarded to four flagship experiments at CERN, the world’s largest particle accelerator. Researchers from the University of Siegen played a decisive role in this achievement.

Major award for physicist Prof. Dr. Thomas Mannel from the University of Siegen: In recognition of his outstanding contributions to theoretical elementary particle physics, he has been awarded the Erwin Schrödinger Visiting Professorship 2025 in Vienna.
