The research conducted by the chair operates at the intersection of demographic and digital change and adopts a socio-technical perspective on information systems in the field of “Health & Aging.” Digital technologies are not viewed in isolation but are always examined and designed within the context of everyday life, housing, and care settings. A central focus is on how digital solutions can help maintain social participation, mobility, and independence among older and vulnerable people, as well as sustainably improve their quality of life.

Methodologically, our research relies heavily on the Siegen “real-world lab” approach (“Praxlabs”). We combine adoption research in real-world settings with participatory design (co-creation) and the prototypical development of new IT artifacts. By actively involving all relevant stakeholders—from older adults and caregivers to family members—in the entire design process, we ensure that the technologies are tailored to their needs and widely accepted. The goal is both to contribute to the scientific understanding of technology adoption and to provide concrete ideas and innovations for home and health care in an aging society.
