FAQs Katalog plus and literature search

The media available in the University Library are listed in the Katalog plus. There you will also find information on the location of the desired media, whether they are available for loan or whether they are currently borrowed by another reader.

The tips for searching in the Katalog plus and our course offer for literature research provide the most important information for use.

Media can be suggested for purchase using the order suggestion form for books. If the library card number is entered here, the title can also be reserved. An e-mail will inform you when the item is available.

The book has been reserved for collection at one of the lending points. If it is not picked up by the end of the availability period, it is sent to the next person with a reservation or returned to the shelf.

Siegen University Library has ordered this book, but the title has not yet arrived at the library. The Central Information Desk will answer any queries or reservation requests.

The library has ordered the book. It has already been delivered by the bookseller, but is not yet available for use. The Central Information Desk will answer any queries or reservation requests.

Tips for searching (media in) course reserves

The access ID to the Katalog plus can NOT be used by non-university library users for access via VPN or Shibboleth, i.e. "from home".
However, the licensed e-resources can be used free of charge at the PC workstations of the University Library.

When searching in the "Articles and more" section, hits from many different databases are displayed, not all resources are licensed. Links "Zum Volltext" should take you to the full text of the resources, other links may work, but do not have to. It is better to use the link "How do I get it" to check whether a resource is available online, in the library collection or via interlibrary loan.

In the Katalog plus under the tab "Articles and more" hits from the extensive sources of the EDS index and thus in particular so-called dependent publications, such as articles from journals, individual chapters from books or contributions from anthologies.

If no link to the full text is offered, for example because the reference is a printed book, a search for availability can be started via the icon "How do I get it".
Not all hits belong to the holdings of Siegen University Library. The information under "How do I get it" to the right of a hit provides detailed information. On the following page information whether the book is in the library collection or available via interlibrary loan is listed.

Subject-specific bibliographies and databases are available for searching for articles from other sources and can be accessed via the "eResources" tab in the Katalog plus.

The tips for searching for literature and our range of courses for literature searches provide important basics for the research.

The "My favourites" list can disappear if the ID number of the account changes, e.g. the surname has changed due to marriage or the user status is no longer student but employee or non-university affiliated user (or vice versa).

The Central User Services at benutzung@ub.uni-siegen.de can often help to find the "old ID" and link it to the new account.
