Studying abroad is a very important experience during a degree in Romance Studies. Students are expected to spend at least one extended period in a country where the target language is spoken. Erasmus exchanges are particularly popular, and we have established a number of partnerships with European universities for this purpose. We have also established additional partnerships in Latin America. Below you will find a list of universities and their points of contact in the Department of Romance Languages. For students pursuing teacher certification, in addition to their studies, a foreign language assistantship through thePedagogical Exchange Service(PAD) is of particular interest, as it allows them to gain experience in foreign school systems and in teaching independently. We recommend the Programme d’Études en France (PEF), organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), to first-year students with a focus on France. For advanced students and even after graduation, there are also numerous other attractive opportunities offered bythe German Academic Exchange Service(DAAD). In addition, we recommend spending a few weeks abroad as part of an internship or volunteer placement.
