The professorship introduces itself
The Chair of Human-Centered Information Systems investigates how information systems change collaboration, work and organizations and how they can be designed to sustainably support people in companies. The focus is on a Business Information Systems perspective that always considers technical systems in interaction with organizational structures, work practices and business processes.
A particular focus is on the use and further development of digital systems in real organizational contexts. Currently, we are particularly concerned with the effects of artificial intelligence and AI-supported applications on collaboration and organizational work as well as with new forms of cooperation between people and digital systems.
Our research combines basic scientific work with practical projects in cooperation with companies, public organizations and research partners.
Our research profile
The professorship's research pursues a socio-technical perspective on information systems. Digital technologies are not viewed in isolation, but are always examined and shaped in interaction with organizational structures, work practices and institutional framework conditions. A central focus is on the question of how digital technologies are actually used, adapted and further developed in everyday organizational life. Information systems often only develop their impact over longer periods of time when they are appropriated by users, integrated into existing work practices and gradually developed into stable organizational infrastructures. These processes of appropriation and infrastructural embedding of digital systems form an important subject of our research.
Another focus is on the effects of artificial intelligence on organizational collaboration. Among other things, we investigate how AI-supported applications and increasingly agentic systems enable, change or challenge new forms of cooperation between people and digital systems. Methodologically, our research combines qualitative-empirical studies in real organizational contexts with the design and prototypical development of new digital systems. The aim is both to contribute to the scientific understanding of digital transformation and to provide impulses for the design of future information systems in organizations.
